Celebrating 100 Years of the Macy's Parade with a Little NYC Christmas Pajama Brunch

This year marks 100 years of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, and I can't let it pass without a celebration of our own! So we built a tiny New York City right on our coffee table, put the kids in matching NYC Christmas pajamas, and turned our living room into a parade-morning brunch. The kids loved every minute! We're so excited to set it up for the real thing at the end of the month!

Here's the idea. I wanted the table to feel like the parade route, all the sparkle and color of New York in the holidays, but small enough for little hands and a low table. We set it right at coffee-table height so the kids could sit on the rug and be part of it.
The center of the table is a mini NYC skyline (Broadway marquees, the Statue of Liberty, yellow taxis, and all!) with a little "street" running down the middle. I purchased and downloaded these off Etsy and had them printed at FedEx, but you could just as easily print them. yourselves.
And the dishes! The Sophistiplate pieces were the perfect finishing touch. The chargers, plates, napkins and cutlery pulled the whole table together and made it feel SO special. What's Thanksgiving if not a pre-Christmas anyways!?

The chargers give the whole setting a base. That scalloped gold edge makes everything layered on top of it look finished. The candy-cane scallopped plates were the perfect backdrop for the festive Christmas tree appetizer plate on top. The kids LOVED them! The napkins are the Santa "Merry Christmas" ones, and I'm obsessed. That pop of pink next to the red and gold is so fun. The cutlery is the final touch, in gold with a pop of red. It makes a simple brunch feel like a Christmas feast! The gold and white striped runner is also so versatile and just an adorable touch.

Here's my favorite part. Before the kids sat down, I folded a pair of Little Pajama Co NYC Christmas pajamas onto each charger and set it on top of their plates. It was a gift and a place setting in one! They were so excited and changed into their pajamas immediately. If you haven't tried Little Pajam Co pajamas, they are the softest in the game. They are all of our favorites- including the adults sets for me! The girls LOVE matching with me!

The print is so cute: yellow taxis, Christmas trees and little red bows. It tied right into the New York theme on the table, and the kids loved changing into them.
Once the pajamas were on, it was time to eat! The cinnamon rolls went right on those Christmas tree plates, with milk in little bottles with straws (and a taxi cab that I stuck on with a glue dot), and the kids dug in.

Here's a tip from my 10+ years in event coordination: with kids, the food is part of the decoration. You don't need a fancy menu. Beautiful plates make an everyday treat feel like an occasion!
And I'm already looking ahead! In December we're headed to New Jersey for Jeff's sister's wedding, and these NYC pajamas are coming with us. I can't wait to bring a little of this Christmas morning to the East Coast. I have a feeling the matching pajamas will make for some of our favorite photos of the trip.
